Books: towards a special way to involve key stakeholders

Some of the books presented hereunder are using the same special participative approach to involve stakeholders. When feasible, each section under our editing is authored by 3 to 5 contributors coming from different organizations, different sectors of the value chain, different countries or even different continents. A first basic text was sometimes provided to contributors who strongly improved it. Many contributors wrote all the text by themselves. In any case, they always all endorsed the final version before publication.

Bourdeix R. & A. Prades (Eds.). 2018. A Global Strategy for the Conservation and Use of Coconut Genetic Resources 2018-2028. Montpellier, France. Bioversity International. 242 p.

This strategy, coordinated by the COGENT Network, is a key document for coconut research planification during the next decade. It is the product of expert opinion and direct participation of more than 90 key stakeholders in the conservation and use of coconut genetic resources. More than 400 contributions were received from international, regional and national institutions, private companies, NGOs and a range of experts. The document was also submitted to six international reviewers who have significantly contributed to the improvement of this document.

Each of the 113 sections of this strategy have been authored by 2 to 5 contributors preferably working in different tropical regions of the world. The writing and the compiling of this strategy generated 434 unique interactions between the 90 contributors of the five chapters of this document, as pictured in the following network representations. The reference lists are given here ranked by sections and ranked by names of the first contributors.

A special love to the coconut palm, but not only....

Most Europeans who see this photo for the first time
do not recognize the coconut,  because they do not
imagine the existence of such diversity
